Dr. Tommy Hays graduated from Oklahoma State University in 1985. His expertise in orthopedic and soft tissue surgery is an integral part of our surgery services. Dr. Hays’ reputation as a skilled surgeon and keen eye for lameness brings in clientele from many neighboring states.

Dr. Brian Brandon came to Elgin Veterinary Hospital after graduating from Louisiana State University in 2000 to pursue an internship. Dr. Brandon was invited to stay on as an associate. Dr. Brandon has enjoyed developing his skills at Elgin Veterinary Hospital and is proficient in all areas of equine medicine.

Dr. Johnson was born and raised in Palestine, Texas. At an early age he began roping and soon developed a passion for horses and rodeo. He competed in calf roping and team roping through high school and received a rodeo scholarship to Trinity Valley Community College in Athens, Texas.

Dr. Warner grew up on a family cattle operation in Louisiana. He earned his BS from ULM and DVM from LSU, joining Elgin Veterinary Hospital, where he became a partner. He focuses on beef cattle lameness, reproduction, and serves as a consultant for the Professional Bull Riders, promoting animal welfare.

DVM, Large Animal Internal Medicine
Dr. Zoe Inglis is a large animal internist, with a background in equine, bovine, porcine, camelid and small ruminant patients. She is a UK native, but spent most of her life in California, staying in state for her undergrad and master’s degree. She received her veterinary degree abroad at the Royal Veterinary College in London and completed both an internal medicine internship and residency at the University of Minnesota, which she finished in 2024. She has been an active horseback rider through her whole life, having tried many disciplines over the years, including dressage, reining, cutting, jumpers, horsemanship and equitation. Outside of the clinic, Dr. Inglis is passionate about promoting community in the equine industry. She currently sits on the board of advisors for a animal based therapy organization in Wisconsin and looks forward to becoming part of the community in Texas.

Dr. Jules Newsom has been an animal lover since her early years showing chickens in 4-H. During her undergraduate studies she ran her own hobby farm with dairy goats, chickens, ducks, turkeys, rabbits, and pigs which supplied eggs, meats, and milk products to her local community. It was through that experience that she decided to pursue a degree in veterinary medicine so that she could give back to the community of farmers and ranchers who had supported and fostered her growth. She received a B.S. in Cellular and Molecular Biology from Fort Lewis College in Durango, CO followed by her DVM at Colorado State University in Fort Collins, CO. Through her education at CSU she found her calling in the field of equine medicine. After graduation she practiced in Northern Alabama at an equine exclusive practice providing ambulatory and hospital services to a spectrum of clientele from high end dressage and barrel racers to rural backyard companions. Dr. Newsom has moved to Texas to join the Elgin Veterinary Hospital team to continue pursuing her career goals of providing high quality care to keep horses performing at their best and supporting the human-animal bond. While she loves all things equine, her special interests include reproduction, neonatal care, emergency and critical care, and dentistry. She also has a soft spot for all the long-eared friends (donkeys and mules)!
